This year London’s MPs have voted against the Withdrawal Agreement three times. Thus, Brexit is still on the roadmap. Will it finally happen? It’s hard to say.
The “divorce” between Great Britain and the European Union has been discussed since 2016. In 2019, however, the country is still a member of this empire – and seems to have even more doubts than before. Let us find out, why it doesn’t work and whether it’ll ever get to its logical conclusion.
This year London’s MPs have voted against the Withdrawal Agreement three times. Thus, Brexit is still on the roadmap. Will it finally happen? It’s hard to say. On 29 March, when the UK was due to abandon the Union, Members of Parliament rejected it again and the prime minister now has to require one more extension.
There are several reasons, why the country cannot quit the Union. Let us consider some of them:
The new deadline for Britain’s exit from the EU is scheduled at 31 October. Some experts note the UK can face the matter out before this date if the prime minister gets her deal endorsed by Parliament. Others underline that the question remains undetermined since January – and it’s unlikely to change.
In light of recent events, the UK government has to work out a reasonable resolution for the problem, so that the changes didn’t destroy its own economy. It has turned into a serious inner crisis, with the growth of product prices and public unrests. British people see the imperfection of their basic constitutional arrangements and feel disappointed in the government.
Nevertheless, the situation will be solved sooner or later, as it is written into law that Great Britain is quitting the Union. The only question is when and how it will happen. The country can do it ‘without a deal’, which means the EU laws will stop applying to this country all at once, with no transition period. It’ll be a great shock for the whole Europe, but if the politicians don’t find any other resolution, it’ll be only possible variant.
