Germany Unemployment Level Breaks Historical Records!

All-time low rate of unemployment: there are only 2.2 million of non-working people in Germany in 2019!

What do statistics say?

According to the European Statistical Agency, the number of unemployed people in the EU is declining. Currently, the unemployment rate hovers around 7.5% out of the total working-age population in Europe. This is significantly less than it was in 2012–2013 years, when unemployment came close to the level of 11%, but is still higher than in 2007–2008, when it fell below 7%.

Germany with its unprecedentedly low levels of unemployment looks like an outsider against other European countries.

For instance, in August 2017, Germany had only 3.6% of non-working residents, which was about twice as low as in the EU as a whole.

In Germany, the unemployment rate has been steadily declining since 2010. Even during the 2012-2013 years, which were the most difficult times for the EU when unemployment was growing throughout Europe, it, nevertheless, continued to fall down in Germany.

Moreover, the unemployment rate in Germany is lower than in other well-developed countries such as the USA and the UK – recognized leaders of the global economy.

Surely, over recent years, the level of unemployment in Germany slightly increased due to the fact that the country adopted hundreds of refugees and opened borders for labor migrants from newly-minted EU members and is currently supporting the policy of family reunification.

But this situation was quickly addressed by the Germany government, and as for April 2019, the number of unemployed people in the state was about 2.2 million or just 4.9% of the whole population, according to Germany Federal Labor Agency. This is an all-time low rate for this month in German history (in April 2018, this indicator was 5.3%). In March 2019, the unemployment rate in Germany was 5.1 percent, and the country accounted for 44.94 million working people, which is 33 thousand more than in February 2019 and 491 thousand more than in March 2018.

Such a rapid decline of unemployment throughout spring 2019 relates to the fact that during warmer seasons, there are more vacancies being opened in different spheres including building, hospitality/tourism business, and the agricultural sector. But such a surge in the employment rate has a temporary nature, and once seasonal works are over, the level of jobless people is very likely to go up.
